Can you believe we are one week away from Christmas?? This year is really “flying” by. So many exciting things are going on here at the farm. Friday, we received an early Christmas present with the birth of a new baby calf. We were very excited to see the new baby, as we weren’t expecting her arrival for several more weeks. We are happy to report that both momma and baby are doing great!
Temperatures are expected to get down right frigid this week. It will be a cold Christmas here in South Texas, something that we don’t have often. We are working really hard to make sure all the animals will be warm and safe as the temperatures are expected to drop below freezing for several days. Our day was spent running around looking for propane heaters to put near the chicken houses. Who knew that would be such a task?! None the less, after many trips around South Texas, we found enough to get us through and keep the animals warm through the cold snap.
The new calf won’t be the youngest on the farm for long, next week we will welcome a new flock of baby chicks to Flying A Farms. On the subject of babies…. The new Goldendoodle puppies have really found their spot in the Atkins herd. Miles is coming in a close second in the weight class, next to the calf. At the vet this week, he weighed in at a whopping 31 lbs, at only 14 weeks old! Rose is trailing behind at 23 lbs. So far, we have failed at leash training, house training and understanding the difference between toys and shoes. Looks like Santa will need to make stop in the shoe department on the way to visit us this year. We hope Santa finds his way to your house too. From our family to yours, we wish you a Very Merry Christmas!
